Ah..A twentieth birthday. She has such life in her... she's only a few years younger than I. And look at me...I don't have nearly as much life in me as she does. So young...she will be a great poet. Yes, a poet. She can obviously write just as well as any man.
Ooh, and that Romney...from reading Book One, i got a bad taste in my mouth from thinking about that man. See how he brings her down! Or tries to at least...she's too strong to be brought down. And then to propose afterwards? To say such things to her and propose? I mean, hell, he basically just said that women are dumb compared to men! I'm glad she turned him away...she'll be a great poet.

Oh Nancy, this woman isn't a poet! Just because she's written something down doesn't make her a poet. What she speaks of is womanly issues, not topics for poetry. And, Aurora should be lucky to have any man's proposal, the way she thinks women can compete with men!
ReplyDeleteI really must reiterate my point about women obliging her man here, my dears. Women must operate under the direction of her husband. The law says so...don't it? Heaven knows Mrs. Bumble has different ideas. I musn't let her get a whiff of this Aurora Leigh character, eh my dears? She'll get some ideas into that pretty old head of hers.
ReplyDeleteI, for one, am glad that Aurora had the smarts to turn down Romney. Someone that degrades her and makes her feel stupid like that doesn't deserve such a wonderful, enlightened girl. She's gonna make it as a poet, I can feel it too Nancy. A girl with such wonderful thoughts and ideas, as well as one with a firm grasp on reality- there's no way she won't make it.
